The Primary Years Programme (PYP) emphasises the methodology of guided inquiry as the preferred learning style.
The IBPYP is an integrated, transdisciplinary curriculum in which students develop conceptual understandings, knowledge and skills through inquiry. Students work within Units of Inquiry developed around a central idea and the inquiry is structured around a set of key questions using active child centred guided inquiry.
While each Unit of Inquiry has a major Learning Area focus, they all result in learning outcomes across many Learning Areas. Learning outcomes in Science, Society and Environment, Design and Technology, Health and a major part of the Arts are delivered through the Units of Inquiry.
French and PE are stand alone Learning Areas, which integrate only partially into the PYP, and Music is a stand alone subject which complements the Arts in the Units of Inquiry.
At Linden Park Schools, the English Learning Area provides learners with strategies for working with texts and language, through listening, speaking, reading, viewing and writing, in order to be effective communicators and thinkers. Students learn literacy skills in English and apply their knowledge and skills in all areas of learning.
At Linden Park Schools, learning Mathematics is an active and engaging process. Through thinking and working mathematically, learners develop and use the processes of problem solving, reasoning and proof, communication, making and using connections and the skills of representation. Students learn numeracy skills in Mathematics and apply their knowledge and skills in all areas of learning.
The programmes are in line with the IBO mission statement, designed to develop students who have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and conceptual understandings that allow them to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world. They are developing the characteristics of the learner profile and take part in responsible personal and community action as a result of their learning. They are developing International mindedness and are becoming global citizens.
